Bangkok, Thailand – 20 December 2024 – Phoonseeraah “Ada” Tieanworn, a 16-year-old student from Choate Rosemary Hall in the United States, is making waves in Thailand with her innovative approach to consent education. Ada’s “Consent Game” has reached over 700 students across seven Bangkok schools, equipping young people with crucial lessons in respect, boundaries, and effective communication.

The Consent Game, launched in the summer of 2024, is a hands-on initiative that combines role-playing, storytelling, and group discussions to teach students about verbal and non-verbal cues. Addressing critical topics such as bullying, peer pressure, and bystander intervention, the programme has garnered widespread praise from participating schools, including Wat Bukkhalo and Bangpakok Witthayakhom. Many schools have already requested Ada’s return, highlighting the game’s practical value and emotional resonance.

“Respect and understanding are at the heart of strong communities,” said Ada, emphasising the core values of her mission. “I want young people to feel confident in communicating clearly and respectfully.”

The inspiration for the project began in 2024 at Ada’s school, where she participated in a Bystander Education Programme that focuses on preventing sexual misconduct and promoting accountability. Using these foundational lessons, Ada adapted the Consent Game to address Thai-specific cultural dynamics, ensuring relevance to local schools.

The challenge of bullying remains a pressing issue in Thailand, with the Department of Mental Health citing that 91% of Thai students have experienced it. Ada’s Consent Game aims to address this directly, equipping students with tools to manage these situations while fostering a sense of empathy, mutual respect, and independent decision-making. Ada’s sessions often spark heartfelt reflections, uncovering deeply rooted issues that schools can address for the well-being of their communities.

“This is just the beginning,” Ada stated. “I want to help as many kids as possible learn how to protect themselves and respect others’ rights and decisions.”

Looking ahead, Ada envisions creating a digital version of the Consent Game to extend its reach to schools across Thailand and, eventually, neighbouring countries. She hopes to spark a cultural shift, where empathy and open communication become integral values in children’s education.

“The Consent Game is not just a game; it’s a tool for teaching empathy, respect, and clear communication,” Ada explained, speaking to the broader impact she envisions for her work. Through her innovation and determination, Ada exemplifies how young leaders can drive meaningful change and inspire a generation to prioritise respect and understanding.
