Thailand advances anaesthesia expertise with the first EDRA Part 2B exam and an international training workshop.
Aesculap Academy Thailand, part of the B. Braun Group, partnered with Siriraj Hospital and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Therapy (ESRA) to host the 6th EDRA Approved Cadaver Workshop for Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anaesthesia. This three-day event introduced advanced techniques in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks to enhance skills and meet modern medical demands. More than 50 participants from 12 Asia-Pacific nations attended the workshop, gaining insights from global experts.
Key faculty included Prof. Paul Kessler, MD, PhD (Chair, ESRA Cadaver Workshop Committee), Dr. Peter Merjavy, MD, PhD (Vice Chair, EDRA Part II), Dr. Morné Wolmarans, MD (Chair, EDRA European Diploma), and leading specialists from Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan.
The EDRA Part 2B examination was held for the first time in Thailand on November 23, 2024, marking a regional milestone. This practical oral exam, part of the European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Management certification, assessed over 10 candidates who passed the initial written exam. Esteemed examiners from ESRA oversaw the process, which adheres to standards recognised by the European Union of Medical Specialists.
The event highlighted a strong collaboration between Siriraj Hospital, Aesculap Academy, and B. Braun Thailand. Siriraj Hospital served as the venue for both the workshop and the examination, underscoring its role in promoting international medical education and skill-sharing.
B. Braun Thailand Managing Director Sayan Roy expressed pride in supporting initiatives that foster growth in healthcare. He thanked partners for their collaboration in advancing medical knowledge and raising standards in patient care.
Prof. Paul Kessler praised the workshop’s success and the opportunity it provided for global professionals to exchange skills. Dr. Peter Merjavy and Dr. Morné Wolmarans echoed similar sentiments, noting the milestone of hosting the EDRA examination outside Europe. Assoc. Prof. Suwimon Tangwiwat of Siriraj Hospital called the event a proud achievement for Thailand in promoting expertise in regional anaesthesia.
