Around 50 job seekers were left stranded at Suvarnabhumi airport on Saturday night after falling victim to a fraudulent job placement scheme. Each individual paid between 30,000 and 150,000 baht to secure employment opportunities abroad.
The group, hoping to board a flight to Israel, reported the incident to airport police at approximately 9 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered no flight bookings were made despite paying hefty fees to a broker.
Salinthip, a resident of Buri Ram province, stated that she paid 60,000 baht to a woman identified as Ms. Aoy, who promised a farming job in Israel. She mentioned that her group of 50 represented only a fraction of the 250 people affected by the same scam.
Thanayut, a 36-year-old from Sakon Nakhon province, revealed that he paid 120,000 baht for a job offering a monthly salary of 70,000 baht. He also transferred funds directly to Ms. Aoy.
Ms. Aoy, 28, appeared at the airport and claimed she was also a victim. She said she forwarded approximately 12 million baht collected from 250 clients to a woman named Ms. Fa. According to her, Ms. Fa claimed to have connections at a foreign embassy and the ability to arrange overseas jobs.
Ms. Aoy added that she expected to receive 2,000 baht per client but failed to reach Ms. Fa on Saturday night. Fees collected ranged from 30,000 to 150,000 baht, depending on the contract duration.
